LaGuardia Gateway Partners began construction on the new 1.3 million square foot Terminal B in June 2016. With a construction value of $4 billion, the Terminal B project is one of the largest public-private partnerships in American history and the largest in US aviation.
Opening in phases, the Terminal B project is now over 90% complete and is expected to wrap up later in 2022, on time and on budget. Remaining work includes demolition of the last portion of the original central terminal, which will allow the opening of our final gates and the taxiway under our western skybridge.
Arrivals & Departures Hall
The 850,000 square foot Arrivals & Departures Hall opened in June 2020 and includes 4 levels of passenger facilities. The terminal features soaring ceilings, an abundance of natural light and world-class art.
Level 1: HOV Level for MTA buses, hotel shuttles and other high occupancy vehicles
Level 2: Arrivals Level with baggage claim
Level 3: Departures Level with airline ticket counters and the security check-point
Level 4: Main commercial area with exciting shops and dining options
Eastern Concourse (Gates 40-59)
The eastern concourse opened in December 2018 and features 18 of the terminal’s 35 gates. Guests enjoy a park area with greenery and benches, a kid’s play area, gate seating with plentiful outlets for electronic devices, airline clubs, and thoughtfully designed restrooms. Retail and dining options include NYC favorites FAO Schwarz, Shake Shack, Irving Farm Coffee and McNally Jackson Booksellers.
The western concourse opened in 2 phases in August 2020 and then in December 2021. Currently 12 of 17 gates are operational. Passenger amenities include a park area with greenery and benches, a kid’s play area, gate seating with plentiful outlets for electronic devices, an airline club, and thoughtfully designed restrooms. Retail and dining options include NYC favorites Beechers and Sweetleaf, as well W.H. Smith, featuring Amazon’s ‘Just Walk Out’ technology.
Both pedestrian skybridges are now open, making LaGuardia the only airport to feature dual bridges. These iconic bridges connect the Arrivals and Departures Hall to each concourse and their design will add an extra 2 miles of taxiway space to the busy airport. The taxiway under the eastern skybridge is currently operational, allowing aircraft to pass underneath the bridge.

This view shows the ongoing decommissioning work of the original Central Terminal B structure and will capture the ongoing construction of the second phase of the new Western Concourse as well as progress on the second pedestrian bridge.
This camera was formerly housed on top of the 1964 Central Terminal Building watching over the ongoing construction of the Western Concourse. In it's current location atop the new Terminal B, it overlooks the westernmost (and last remaining) portion of the Central Terminal Building. This camera will ultimately capture the demolition work and conversion to active taxiway space of the footprint where the building currently sits.
